This might sound weird, but I have always been into home products—home cleaning, home organization, and of course, home décor.
From a young age, I have always liked to shop for all kinds of home stuff, which always made my mom very happy because I would show up with random stuff to organize and clean the house.
When I moved to Spain, my cleaning product obsession was still there, and I would spend a good hour every month looking for new products to clean the house I shared with my brother—the variety of mops was impressive.
Then I moved to the US, and to my surprise, the mops I found in the different stores were not exactly I was expecting.
I kept changing brands and mops for years until about a year ago when I found what I thought was a great mop.
To be fair, it was a great mop, but a few weeks ago, I found a mop that was just … WOW!
A Mop like No Other
Yes, I am doing a whole post on mops and cleaning supplies. Why do you ask? Well, when it comes to cleaning, I prefer to work smarter, not harder.
Now that we have moved to a two-story, single family home and got a puppy ( our new family member Cooper, my shepadoodle puppy right?), I seem to be always cleaning, and Momma would rather spend her time doing anything else.
One of the biggest challenges I faced when we moved was the stairs. We have laminate flooring everywhere but the bathrooms on the second floor, and that includes the stairs.
Laminate cleaning was new to me, and I quickly turned to my dear friend Google to figure out the best way to clean it without ruining it.
This is what I learned:
- Do not use steam cleaners or wet mops. Instead, use a damp cloth to blot up spills as soon as they happen.
- Regularly sweep, dust, or vacuum with the hard floor attachment (not the beater bar) to prevent the accumulation of dirt and grit that can scratch or dull the floor finish.
- Periodically clean the floor with cleaning products made specifically for laminate floor care.
- Do not wash or wet mop the floor with soap, water, oil-soap detergent, or any other liquid cleaning product. This could cause swelling, warping, or delamination.
- Avoid using steel wool, abrasive cleaners, or strong ammoniated or chlorinated cleaners.
This was not my idea of easy-going, especially if took into consideration that the first floor was tile and that I would probably need all those products I should not use for the upper part of the home.
I ended up with two different sets of cleaning products and supplies for the different floors of the house.
That meant a lot of switching, moving around, and of course, storage space for all the different products.
A Better Solution
Was there something like the perfect mop? A better solution to multi-level homes with different flooring?
I was pretty much convinced that there was not, but then I found what immediately became my favorite mop in the history of mops—a super lightweight, cordless electric mop with an oscillating design that is powered by a high-frequency motor. The oscillating floor mop by Nellie’s WOW Mop
Delivering about six scrubs per second, the mop takes all the effort away from you and efficiently cleans the different floor surfaces in your home, including laminates.
It offers an appealing design with an extra-long handle that is jointed for easier maneuverability, and it has LED headlights to help you see under furniture.
You can clean edges and corners without a fuss, leaving your floors practically dry as you go, which is great for preventing slips and falls.
When fully charged, I can use the mop for about a full hour, which is more than enough time to do both levels of my home.
The tank holds about a cup of solution or water, and the mop comes with reusable microfiber wet cleaning cloths that can go through the washing machine about 100 times!
